Instructions for patients

What do you need to know when providing research material?
PATIENT INSTRUCTIONS
Biochemical examination must be carried out under standard conditions – in the morning on an empty stomach (after ensuring 12 hours of fasting during the night hours) or at least 2 hours after the last meal and 24 hours off alcohol intake. It is also necessary to abstain from coffee and cigarettes before taking the sample.
Suitable for testing is an average portion of the first morning urine or, exceptionally, urine passed at least three hours after the last urination.
The sample is taken after a strict toilet of the external genitalia with soap and water.
The first 20-25 ml. urine is flushed down the toilet.
The average portion of urine is collected in a sterile container. An amount of about 5ml is required. The container and its cap should not be touched from the inside with hands/clothes/towel. The container is closed carefully so that there is no leakage of material from it. Leaking containers are not accepted for examination! Urine is brought to the laboratory for examination within two hours after its release.
The 24-hour urine test is a laboratory test that can be used to examine the amount of various substances in the urine - proteins, hormones, urea, creatinine, etc. The test is usually used to assess kidney function. To conduct it, it is necessary for the patient to collect in a special container the entire amount of urine that he excreted in a period of 24 hours.
It is recommended to start the test in the morning when the first morning urination is not collected, write down the exact time - this is the start time of the test.
Every time you urinate, you must collect the urine in a collection container. The contents of the collection container are transferred to a storage container after each urination. The collection container was kept cold throughout the study.
The last urine collection for the 24 hours should be at the time the test started the previous morning.
Feces for microbiological examination are placed in a sterile container with a wide opening. Contamination of the sample with urine should be avoided.
Required quantity: about 1 gr. (pea) or >2 ml. (with liquid stools). The container is closed carefully so that there is no leakage of material from it. Leaking containers are not accepted!
The sample is brought to the laboratory within two hours after its separation or stored in a refrigerator at 4-6 degrees for no longer than 24 hours.
Throat discharge
The secretion is taken with a sterile swab, preferably in the morning on an empty stomach, before brushing the teeth and with limited fluid intake.
The tongue is pressed down with a spatula. Both tonsils, the posterior pharyngeal wall, any plaque, redness, swelling or swelling are rubbed with the swab.
The swab is placed in a transport medium in order to preserve the vitality of the bacteria.
It is taken to the laboratory for examination.

The secretion is taken by a specialist doctor or on site in the laboratory.

Wound discharge
For superficial secreting wounds, material is taken by aspiration with a sterile syringe. Exceptionally, material is taken with a sterile swab.
In the case of an abscess/phlegmon, an incision or puncture is made and the material is aspirated with a sterile syringe.
It is placed in a transport medium and taken to the laboratory for examination.

The secretion is taken by a specialist doctor.

Carried secretion
The secretion is taken with a sterile tampon and it is recommended that no topical medication has been used for at least 24 hours. before sampling. The swab is placed in a transport medium in order to preserve the vitality of the bacteria.

The secretion is taken by a specialist doctor or on site in the laboratory.

Cervical discharge
The secretion is taken by a gynecologist and taken to the laboratory for examination.

Vaginal discharge
The secretion is taken by a gynecologist and taken to the laboratory for examination.

Prostatic secretion
The secretion is collected in a sterile container.
The secretion is taken by a urologist and taken to the laboratory for examination.

Urethral discharge
The secretion is collected in a sterile container.
The secretion is taken by a urologist and taken to the laboratory for examination.

Drainage secretion
The end of the drainage tube is cleaned with an antiseptic solution. A certain amount of exudate is allowed to flow out, after which 2-3 ml are collected. of the secretion into a sterile container. The container is closed carefully so that there is no leakage of material from it. Leaking containers are not accepted for examination!
The secretion is not suitable for anaerobic cultivation!

The secretion is taken by a specialist doctor and brought to the laboratory.

Sputum
It is recommended to examine sputum, which was separated in the morning during deep expectoration. Toothpastes or solutions should not be used as they contain disinfectant. Several deep breaths and coughs are necessary before sputum is produced that is suitable for examination. The sputum is collected directly into a wide-mouth sterile container, the edge of which is pressed against the lower lip to collect the entire amount. The container is closed carefully so that there is no leakage of material from it. Leaking containers are not accepted for examination!

The sample must be brought to the laboratory within two hours of collection.

Ejaculate
The ejaculate is released directly into a sterile container after a strict toilet of the genitals with soap and water. The container is closed carefully so that there is no leakage of material from it. Leaking containers are not accepted for examination!

The sample must be brought to the laboratory within two hours of collection.

Breast milk
A strict breast wash with soap and water is required prior to sample collection. Squeeze out 1-2 ml. for cleaning the channels from the skin microflora. The required amount for testing is a minimum of 2ml. directly separated into a sterile container. The container is closed carefully so that there is no leakage of material from it. Leaking containers are not accepted for examination!

The sample must be brought to the laboratory within two hours of collection.
The scotch tape sample is taken in the morning, without washing with water, before a large bowel movement, so that no feces get on the tape. The tape was peeled off the glass slide and stuck to the anus. Carefully grasp the end with the paper and stick it back onto the glass slide.

The sample is taken to the laboratory for testing.
