Luteinizing hormone (LH) plays a key role in both reproductive and hormonal functions in both men and women. In women, LH along with follicle-stimulating hormone (FSH) regulates the menstrual cycle, while in men it stimulates the Leydig cells in the testes to produce testosterone, necessary for spermatogenesis. Measuring LH levels is often used to assess fertility and may help diagnose various reproductive or hormonal problems in both men and women.
